Founder's Day November 2025

At our November 2025 meeting we remembered our Council’s founder, Lady Ishbel Aberdeen. We held a moment of silence at 11:11 am. Following our usual business, we enjoyed historical trivia over tea and sweet treats.

A collection of archival postcards hold historical images such as of Lady Aberdeen and the Horticultural Pavilion, Allan Gardens, where Councils were formed in 1893. An art book details on paintings such as the signature painting Fabric of a Nation, from the collection Celebrating Women, commissioned by NCWC.

A paper, preserved in a ziplock baggy with poppies, reads:

Motto: ALTIOR

This is a permanent commemoration of Lady Aberdeen, the founding President. It was her motto which she used frequently to offer encouragement and as a succinct reminder of the Council's purposes.

"Ever Higher" remains a fine clarion call and statement of aspirations a century later.
